Олимпиада Vancouver 2010

1 March 2010: The Games End

The last week has seen some amazing athletic accomplishments in their respective sports. Unfortunately (and exactly the reason why there is a gap in coverage), Team Russia did not excell in this round of olympic competition. Russia was knocked out of the Hockey finals by Canada, who went on to win the Gold against the United States (theres one highlight!). Our medal count inched up over the last few days with members from our team earning bronze in the 4x7.5 Biathatlon, silver in the parallel giant slalom, and a silver in Snow Boarding; our countries first ever medal in that event. Comically, a member of the Men's Hockey team was asked for an interview about their performance, and he ended up breaking the RIA novosti correspondant's camera. This shows the level of disappointment felt by players, fans, and leadership. Medvedev has called this teams performance dismal, while Putin has assured all these issues will be rectified before the 2014 games in Sochi.

Interesting news to report in Vancouver today. Team Russia's Women's Biathalon team has won gold in the relay event. They say they are exhausted, but very excited about their success. For both men's and women's Cross Country Skiing, Team Russia has earned bronze in both catagories. For figure skating, the team of Domnina, and Shabalin have also taken bronze for their ice dance.

20-22 February 2010

Exciting events to report in for the past few days of the Olympics. Our medal count has increased quite pleasantly. Team Russia has won Gold on the 15km mass start Biathalon. This is exciting news as many people favor this sport. Also, Team Russia has earned two bronze medals in the two-man bobsled events. Our couples figure skaters are now in 3rd place overall after an impressive ice dance to "Aboriginal Dance". In more embarrasing news, Sweden's women's curling team conceded to Team Russia after Russia was in the lead 10-1. Go Team Russia! Team Russia's men's ice hockey team also pummeled the Czech Republic on the ice as well.

Controversy has overshadowed Plushenko's Silver medal victory as the president of the IOC says he is displeased with Pluskenko's behavior prior to, and after receiving his medal. Commentators have argued that Plushenko's routine was overall better, but due to the new point system in effect, Lysasek earned "more" points because he did more "moves" in comparison to Plushenkos fewer yet more complicated jumps. Plushenko refused to take his victory lap, and quickly removed his silver medal after its presentation. He is also quoted as openly disputing the judge's point count, as well as openly critisizing the new point system. There is speculation he may officially contest the results in order to earn the gold many people feel he rightly deserves.

Disappointment mixed with some laughs.... Plushenko takes home the Silver medal, defeated by his biggest rival, US skater Lysacek. In other upsetting news, Solvakia upset Team Russia's Mens Ice Hockey team in overtime with a penalty shot.

In much more interesting news, a well known American comedian, Steven Colbert, visited the Russia house in Vancouver for his wildly popular news satire, The Colbert Report. RIA Novosti has footage at the following link:  en.rian.ru/video/20100219/157942018.html

Mr Colbert's appearance at the Russia house indicates its vast popularity, and the extent of its influence on the global society. Mr Colbert's television episodes mostly only include the most interesting, talked about, or important culturally relevant materials. For Russia's house to be featured on his report means that millions of Americans, and countless others world wide will have a glimpse at our incredibly popular location during the 2010 Olympic games.

OLYMPIC GOLD!

Russia's Nikita Kriukov and Alexander Panzhinskiy won gold and silver respectively in the men's cross-country individual sprint race putting an end to Russia's medal drought on the sixth day of the Olympic Games in Vancouver.

In other good news Team Russia’s women’s curling team defeated Denmark 7 to 3.

17 February 2010

Another day without medals for Team Russia. Although, our hockey team demolished Lativa 8-2, we expect the following matches against Slovenia, and the Czech Republic to be more difficult. In figure skating, Evegnia Plusenko has the lead, and is expected to maintain his edge as he approaches the finals for his sport. In other news, our athletes competing in the Bi-athalon claim that their performance will overshadow their competition. We eagerly await their performance.
